The 22nd Air Combat Wing, known simply as the Twenty-second, was a combat wing of clone troopers within the Grand Army of the Republic that fought during the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Ion Team, a clone commando squad, was attached to the 22nd Air Combat Wing.
Towards the end of the war, the 22nd Air Combat Wing operated out of the Mid Rim planet Boz Pity, before moving to the Outer Rim Territories planet Murkhana in 19 BBY. When Order 66 was issued by Supreme Chancellor Palpatine on Murkhana, ordering all clone troopers to execute the Jedi Order, the Twenty-second ambushed and killed Jedi Master Saras Loorne and two Jedi Knights.
Later, Clone Commander Salvo reported the Twenty-second's actions to Clone Captain Climber, the leader of Ion Team, claiming that its members had apparently claimed no moral high ground from killing the Jedi, as a snide remark towards Climber's moral questioning of Order 66.
The 22nd Air Combat Wing first appeared as the "Twenty-second" in Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader, a 2005 novel written by James Luceno. The unit was later given its full official name in the 2008 The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia reference book, written by Stephen J. Sansweet and Pablo Hidalgo.
