NT-242
The NT-242 was a sniper rifle model. A lot of people saw the NT-242 as a tank destroyer, and it ranked among the heaviest of longblasters. With its high power at long distances, the NT-242 could be altered to incorporate a disruptor shot, making it effective against vehicles. It also supported modifications such as a macroscope offering two levels of zoom, and a power cell that substantially increased the number of shots possible before needing to cool.
Grummgar, a Dowutin who worked as both a big game hunter and a mercenary, employed an NT-242 as his hunting rifle while engaged in the unlawful hunting of molsumes located on the planet Ithor. While talking with fellow hunter Nysorly, Grummgar used the rifle to shoot a molsume when the creature tried to attack Nysorly. In an ironic twist, Nysorly, unaware of the molsume's presence, responded by shooting Grummgar's speeder, almost causing his death.
Behind the scenes
The 242 hunting rifle debuted in the short story titled "Bait," penned by Alan Dean Foster. This story was featured in Star Wars Insider, specifically in issue 162.
