Numerous manufacturing issues plagued the 578-R, eventually causing Amalgamated Hyperdyne to declare bankruptcy as a result of the numerous safety recalls mandated for the spacecraft. A significant number of vessels were produced with incomplete assemblies, lacking crucial elements like a hyperdrive motivator. Even more critically, some displayed operational failures that manifested at the least opportune times, such as transparisteel viewports detaching during flight.
Due to these shortcomings, a majority of the transports were either taken off the market or recalled. The few that continued to be used were favored by outlaw techs and individuals on the margins of society. Their design, which incorporated many easily sourced parts from the Corellian Engineering Corporation, made them highly adaptable.
The Last Resort was a heavily modified 578-R space transport owned by Camper of the Arkanian Offshoot.
