Adari


Such cultural homogeneity among the Adarians allowed the species to rapidly develop ore mining and smelting and atomic-fission industries and technologies. A planet-wide corporate government was formed, and the species came to be divided by a rigid caste system.

Eventually, the Adarians expanded outward into the Adari system, and the discovery of hyperdrive technology led to the species controlling the entire Adari sector and joining the Galactic Republic millennium before the Battle of Yavin. Adari later signed a non-aggression treaty with the Galactic Empire and supplied it with raw materials necessary for starship construction, and the Rebel Alliance eventually established a presence on the planet.

Description


Adari was a planet located in the Adari system, a part of the Adari sector in the Slice portion of the Inner Rim. The local year on Adari lasted 409 standard days. Adari was a volcanic world, the surface of which mostly featured towering mountains that were heavily snow-covered for almost two-thirds of the local year.

The origin of Adarians


Since the oldest settlements of the Adarian species were concentrated in a single region of Adari, and since there was no fossil record that would indicate the existence of an evolutionary ancestor species, archaeologists considered it likely that the Adarians arrived on Adari from another star system millennia before the Battle of Yavin.

From the region containing their original settlements, the Adarians spread out across their planet while already having a similar shared culture. Due to not spending labor and materials on internal warfare, they rapidly developed technologies that allowed to exploit their homeworld's wealth of minerals and ores.

Outward expansion


Early on, the Adarians developed mining, smelting, construction, and atomic-fission industries that allowed them to expand out into their star system and harvest most of its asteroids. When the Adarians discovered hyperdrive technology, they used their experience as deep-space asteroid miners, ore smelters, and freighter builders to expand their commercial interests in other systems throughout the Adari sector, steadily increasing the wealth of Adari itself.

Eventually, the Adarians were contacted by the Galactic Republic. The species quickly became a member of that government, with one Adarian serving in the Republic Military around 3643 BBY.

Adari and the Empire


Adari maintained its neutrality and formal independence from the Galactic Empire, which coveted the planet's natural and technological resources, by being one of the few worlds to sign a non-aggression treaty with the Empire. Under the treaty, however, the planet still provided the Empire with vast amounts of raw materials necessary for starship construction. In addition, it was believed that the Empire would likely exert political pressure on Adari to deal with a movement that had formed in the lower castes of the Adarian society. The Adarian agitators called for the caste system of their species' hierarchical society to shift from being birth-determined to being meritocratic.

During the Galactic Civil War, agents of the Rebel Alliance established a foothold on Adari by exploiting the discontent of the lower Adarian castes with the social system of their homeworld.

Inhabitants

Adari was the homeworld of the Adarians, a species of sentient humanoids whose most distinguished physical characteristic was a hole perforating their skull from one side to the other. The Adarians were adapted to a diet consisting of nuts and thick-skinned fruit, and they spoke the Adarese language.

Adarian society was divided by a rigid caste system known as sceel'sara. Their homeworld, Adari, was ruled by a single planet-wide government that functioned as a large corporation, controlling and managing the resources and labor force of the entire planet for the profit of the Adarian species as a whole. In addition, the Adarian government owned and controlled all Adarian companies.

Despite the Adarians controlling an entire space sector and having business holdings and industrial operations in hundreds of systems both in that sector and elsewhere, the species remained focused on their homeworld. Most Adarians tended to maintain at least a temporary residence on Adari, and off-world members of the species tried to visit the planet at least twice per local year.

Locations


The Hall of Decisions was a multi-floored arcology on Adari. The headquarters of the Adarian government were located in the structure, and the majority of the Adarian species was administered from there.

One small geographical area of Adari predominantly featured broken hills and freshwater lakes, which made it one of the most habitable areas on the planet in comparison with the high, snow-covered mountains covering most of the world. According to archaeological records, the region at one point contained the oldest settlements of the Adarian species.

Behind the scenes


Adari was created by Lisa Smedman and introduced in Galaxy Guide 12: Aliens — Enemies and Allies, a 1995 West End Games sourcebook. The book includes a roleplaying game adventure seed for use with Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. This article assumes the scenario plays out as described. The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Adari system, and therefore the planet Adari, in grid square M-9.
