The Airam was a clan-based culture of indeterminate species who lived in the Outer Rim Territories, especially within the Airam sector.
At least one Airam facility was located in the Kuras Drift in the adjacent Elrood sector.
The Airam Clans were considered fiercely independent. Known clan leaders were Tamaron and Ilay. The appearance they gave of being a less-than law-abiding people was not helped by their attachment to occasional piracy and other illicit activities. The Airam were also competent technicians. Members of one clan aided the Rebel Alliance in its project to transfer gravity-well generator technology from a captured interdictor cruiser to an Alliance Strike-class cruiser.
Suicidal fanaticism was not unknown in Airam culture. At one point, the Empire even sought to harness this by using conscripts whom clan leader Ilay had sold to the Empire as suicide strike pilots. The Airam later avenged themselves on the Empire by, ironically, using kamikaze attacks to destroy the Executor-class Super Star Destroyer Vengeance.
Starships commonly used by the Airam included Dreadnaught-class heavy cruisers, CR90 corvettes, Muurian transports, R-41 Starchasers and T-wing interceptors.
