A massive Star Dreadnought, the Aurora was a capital ship equipped with a hyperdrive.
The Aurora was part of the Imperial-affiliated Kuati Sector Forces in 8.5 ABY, during the Galactic Civil War, in which the Galactic Empire fought against the New Republic for control of the galaxy. Helmed by Imperial Admiral Teren Rogriss, sent in from the current Imperial capital of the Mid Rim planet Orinda, the Aurora, along with the rest of the Kuati fleet, guarded the Core World Kuat, home to Kuat Drive Yards, a key shipyard for the Empire. Soon after the New Republic defeated the warlord Zsinj, they launched an attack against Kuat in hope of securing its shipyards.
The Republic RZ-1 A-wing interceptors of Surprise Squadron took out the battlecruiser Luminous and three Star Destroyers using their ion weaponry while a virus caused the battlecruiser Event Horizon and five destroyers to turn against the rest of the fleet. Facing an enemy that could take out nine warships in a matter of minutes, Kuati officials were forced to surrender after Republic representative Ral'Rai Muvunc brought to light the fact that the New Republic controlled thirty-four percent of Kuati shares, while also informing them of the Republic Mon Calamari Star Cruisers that could be in the system in short time. The Republic allowed Rogriss to relinquish command of the Aurora and take his crew back to Orinda. Shortly after the battle, Imperial undercover agents activated the Auroras hyperdrive, sending it into Kuat's sun and destroying it.
The Aurora was under the command of Imperial Admiral Terren Rogriss, who was sent from the Imperial-controlled Orinda system to Kuat to helm the ship. His command lasted until the Empire's defeat at Kuat, after which Rogriss and his crew were permitted to withdraw back to Orinda, leaving the Aurora at Kuat.
The Aurora was first mentioned in The Essential Guide to Warfare, an extensive guide dedicated to the conflicts in the galaxy released in 2012, written by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart.
