Barefoot Squadron was a New Republic starfighter squadron that utilized X-wing starfighters and was formed between 27 ABY and 28 ABY, during the Yuuzhan Vong War. Led by the young Jedi Knight Tahiri Veila, the squadron took its name from how Veila preferred to walk, and it was composed of mostly rookie pilots. An executive officer helped with the squadron's organization.
Barefoot Squadron was one of many starfighter squadrons formed between 27 ABY and 28 ABY during the Yuuzhan Vong War—in which the extra-galactic Yuuzhan Vong invaded the galaxy—when the New Republic began grouping new pilots straight out of flight schools with more experienced pilots from existing squadrons to create new starfighter units. At the time of its creation, Barefoot Squadron was composed of mostly rookie pilots, and its commander was the teenage Jedi Knight Tahiri Veila, who preferred to walk barefoot, thus inspiring the squadron's name. The pilots of Barefoot Squadron were very protective of Veila. To help Veila deal with red tape and the organization of the squadron, New Republic Admiral Traest Kre'fey assigned the squadron an executive officer.
The members of Barefoot Squadron utilized X-wings as their starfighters.
Barefoot Squadron was first mentioned in 2002's Ylesia, an eBook novella written by Walter Jon Williams as part of The New Jedi Order series.
