The narrator announces that the Empire strikes back as Darth Vader leads an attack on Princess Leia Organa's rebels on Hoth. Rebel communications officer Romas Navander informs General Carlist Rieekan that a fleet of Star Destroyers is exiting hyperspace in Sector Four. Leia bends down beside Navander while Han Solo watches. Leia replies that it is risky but that they can't hold out much longer.
Rebel troopers man the trenches as a phalanx of AT-AT walkers approaches Echo Base. As the walkers blast the rebel ground forces and artillery, Rogue Squadron flies their snowspeeders into action against the walkers. Luke Skywalker convinces Wedge Antilles and his gunner Wes Janson to use their snowspeeder to wrap a tow cable around one of the walkers, causing it to trip over and explode. Luke Skywalker smiles but his joy is shot-lived as a walker destroy's Echo Base's shield generator.
As debris rains down on the command center, Leia orders the command crew to give the evacuation signal and to get to their transports. As Navander warns that Imperial troops have entered the base, Darth Vader uses the Force to break through a wall. Rebel troopers exchange fire with snowtroopers but are quickly mown down.
Han, Leia, Chewbacca, and C-3PO flee up the Millennium Falcons gangplank as snowtroopers converge around the freighter. The snow troopers set up an E-Web heavy repeating blaster but the Falcon uses one of its laser cannons to mow them down. Han tells Chewbacca to punch it as the Falcon rockets out of the hangar, leaving Lord Vader and his snowtroopers behind.
Meanwhile, Skywalker boards his T-65B X-wing starfighter with R2-D2. He tells the astromech droid that they are not going to regroup with the others but are going to the Dagobah system instead.
The episode was originally titled "Battle on Hoth," but was later changed to "Battle of Hoth" on the Star Wars Kids YouTube channel.
