After the end of the Nagai–Tof War, the New Republic launched its main liberation campaign against the Empire. The New Republic Fourth Fleet was tasked to reconquer the Corellian Run. After the Republic victory at Milagro, Imperial Admiral Uther Kermen retreated to Spirana from where he launched a raid on Milagro. Admiral Voon Massa immediately ordered the attack of the planet.
After the battle, the New Republic discovered information that there were still about ten thousand TIE Defenders unaccounted for after major Imperial defeat.
