A battleship was a large, armored, and heavily armed type of capital ship that not only was armed for fighting, but was also typically designed to transport ground troops, launch squadrons of starfighters, and serve as mobile hospitals. Battleships were designed to be part of force projection, fleet actions, and for bombarding planets.
