A Beacon ship was a type of vessel used in the Chiss Ascendancy.
These vessels were used by the Chiss in a support role and were charged with providing hyperspace coordinates to early models of Nssis-class Clawcraft as well as other ships within the Chiss fleet that lacked navigational computers. Depending on the length of a journey, these ships were often strung along travel routes where they coordinated smaller ships, as well as ensured that they were not lost in their travels. Early-model Nssis-class ships could not make a hyperspace jump more than a day away from a beacon ship or similar source of astrographical coordinates.
During the Yuuzhan Vong War, a beacon ship along with several squadrons of clawcraft were dispatched to help in the fight against the Yuuzhan Vong until the destruction of Ithor.
