A Force-sensitive, Bear was instructed in the ways of the Force by the Jedi Order and eventually was possessed of such knowledge and understanding that he was granted the rank of Jedi Master. Serving the Order dutifully, Master Bear was selected to become an instructor at the Coruscant Jedi Temple, teaching Climbing and Ropework classes after his nomination was accepted by the Jedi High Council.
When the Clone Wars erupted between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, Master Bear was one of a few instructors who remained at the Temple, while many others went to serve as Generals in the Grand Army of the Republic. A well-respected instructor, Grand Master Yoda himself often recommended this class; many Initiates questioned the need for such a class, though often looked back on their lessons with appreciation.
