Black Sun civil war

At the same time, Savan had infiltrated Black Sun in a Human identity, and incited internal conflict to eliminate her rivals. During an Alliance to Restore the Republic mission to the galactic capital planet Coruscant aiming to negotiate an end to the war and avoid civilian casualties, the Falleen staged an attack pinned on Black Sun Vigo Vekker, creating a target for rival factions while she maintained a false pursuit of peace. However, Alliance leader Princess Leia Organa uncovered Savan's plot, and discovered that she had left for Hurd's Moon. Savan had tracked Guri to the moon, where the Human replica droid had enlisted the advanced medical droid A-OIC and its master Massad Thrumble to disable her assassin programming. Backed by hired forces, the Falleen breached Thrumble's secure surgical facility and attempted to command Guri with a control phrase. However, Thrumble's deprogramming had rendered the code inert, and Savan was incapacited by Guri and taken into Alliance custody, preventing the rise of her new Black Sun.

The Black Sun civil war first appeared in the third issue of the Dark Horse Comics series Shadows of the Empire: Evolution, written by Steve Perry, illustrated by Ron Randall, and published on April 8th, 1998.

Although the faction led by the Heroes of Yavin in this conflict is identified as the Rebel Alliance by Savan's entry of the 2008 reference book The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, Guri's entry in the same text refers to it as the New Republic, the Alliance's successor. As the original comic refers to the faction as the Alliance, this article favors the former.
