A large blaster rifle of Mon Calamari design, the blaster spear was standard-issue among the Mon Calamari Guard. While it had only average energy output and range, it could fire underwater, making it ideal for amphibious assault units and beings in submerged cities like those on Mon Cala. Although the weapon was rare outside Mon Calamari Space, a number of Mon Calamari wielded their traditional weapons with pride.
Where most rifles had a buttstock, the spear blaster had a large blade, limiting the weapon to hip fire on land. However, underwater, it was typically fired while swimming toward the enemy. While this underarm shooting stance was not particularly accurate, it left the weapon readied to make an upward slash attack in close quarters.
