Chertyl Ruluwoor was a female Selonian sent to Corran Horn's CorSec unit for training under a cultural exchange program. In the traditional leadup to the annual CorSec Officers' Ball the younger Horn got to know her, eventually taking her to the event.
One tradition of the Officer's Ball was to have a female officer offer herself as a prize in a betting pool that the males would buy into, with the proceeds being donated to the CorSec Survivors and Orphans Fund. That year, Chertyl was the prize and Corran rigged the pool to guarantee that he would take her himself. He was the only single man on the force and, miserable from his father's recent death, decided not to have the others separated from their loved ones.
He went all out to make her evening special, renting a repulsorlimo and using an X-Wing to fly across the planet to buy her favorite flowers from the only florist who had them available. The two hit it off and became involved in a brief but passionate relationship which was, unfortunately, cut short due to chemistry issues — of the biological kind. After an intimate evening they both developed painful rashes, and subsequently discovered that Corran's sweat was mildly acidic, which irritated her skin, while he was allergic to her fur.
Corran would later acknowledge that, though they were personally very compatible, they both knew that they were living a fantasy and their long term relationship goals were very different. They parted ways amicably and remained great friends. He would remember his involvement with Chertyl fondly, describing the relationship to as finding Corusca gems embedded in rocks one was planning to throw out that would fit together to form a beautiful sculpture.
During their time flying with Rogue Squadron, Gavin Darklighter asked Corran about relationships with non-humans, prompted by his interest in the Bothan Asyr Sei'lar. In response, Corran's former CorSec partner, Iella Wessiri, would relate the story about his difficulties with Chertyl to Gavin and Mirax Terrik. Despite his embarrassment over the story, Corran encouraged Gavin to give his relationship a try and see where things went.
Ruluwoor was described as being over two meters tall and lithe. She had short black fur, which gleamed a silver-blue in the correct light and was considered very attractive. While attending the CorSec Officers' Ball, she wore a slinky gown and a necklace of silver and aquamarine, as well as a bracelet that matched the necklace.
Chertyl Ruluwoor was first mentioned in the novel X-Wing: Wedge's Gamble, which was written by Michael A. Stackpole and published in 1996.
