Club Penguin Star Wars Takeover

Club Penguin Star Wars Takeover was an event held within Disney's web-based children's MMO virtual world, Club Penguin. It began on July 25 and ended on August 15, 2013. The event was initially announced in June 20, 2013 on ClubPenguin.com, with StarWars.com posting an official cinematic trailer on their website in early July.

The event featured many characters from Star Wars; However, they didn't appear as actual characters. Some characters like Princess Leia and Darth Vader appeared as costumes that were worn by Club Penguin characters, while other characters like Luke Skywalker and Han Solo appeared on promotional materials, but did not play a part during the event itself. The story was largely a parody of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.

During this event, many special rooms were added that was based on Star Wars planets and other familiar locations. The Original trilogy, mainly was the focus of the event, so special rooms based on Tatooine, Yavin 4, and the first Death Star were added, while the Club Penguin island was lightly decorated for the event.

Club Penguin characters such as Cadence, Sensei, and Herbert P. Bear portrayed Princess Leia Organa, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Darth Vader, respectively. They were the only major characters that played a part in the event.

Despite the absent of most characters in the event, Club Penguin added a special Star Wars catalog where players could purchase iconic costumes and wear them. The catalog had costumes of Chewbacca, Tusken Raider, Greedo, and many more available. However, only players with an active membership subscription could purchase most of the costume. Players without a membership could only buy a bandfill and a kloo horn. A costume of Boba Fett was also added, but it was exclusive to purchase via the Club Penguin App.

Each week, penguins traveled to different parts of the galaxy and played a minigame to save the galaxy from Darth Herbert and the Galactic Empire.

During week one, players had to travel to Tatooine and defeat the enemy in the Defeat Stormtroopers minigame to receive a Stormtrooper Helmet. Playing more as a member gave players the Stormtrooper costume and Sandtrooper Pauldrons. During week two, players were required to travel to the Death Star and complete challenges to receive a Rebel Trooper Helmet. During week three, players needed to travel to the Rebel Base on Yavin 4 to participate in battle flying an X-wing and receive a X-Wing Pilot Helmet.

Members could buy more than twenty costumes from the Star Wars Catalog and had the chance to become Jedi Masters. To do this, they needed to equip Anakin's Lightsaber and duel with other penguins. Winning a battle would award an item; winning thirty battles would unlock more items.

Despite their appearances in multiple promotional images and videos, characters like Luke Skywalker and Han Solo only appeared in-game as costumes for players to purchase and wear.
