Danuta

Description

From orbit, Danuta looked like being covered by a brown blanket; most of it was badlands with hills and canyons.

The capital of Trid was an outpost town of low buildings laid out grid-style; a two-lane road led from Trid to some farms, where farmers managed to fertilise circular portions of the barren land.

Beyond the town was an imperial garrison that was expanded into an , and a cluster of much taller buildings comprised the Danuta research facility. Within the Reservation, some superlaser experiments to drill the crust were performed, resulting in a black "lake" of liquified, then cooled, surface.

History

The primary population was the Hutts during the last days of the Old Republic, but later the Galactic Empire converted it to a client of the Brodsport Mining Corporation. Danuta was not notable, aside from its function as a stopover on one of the many hyperspace routes leading to Kessel.

The Imperial garrison on the outskirts of Trid was expanded into a full military installment, home to a sprawling yet secret research facility visited by the Imperial Security Bureau and scientists. A partial set of plans to the first Death Star was hidden there by Atour Riten.

Kyle Katarn infiltrates the research facility.

Kyle Katarn infiltrates the research facility.

Striking from a hidden base, the Rebel Alliance attacked the Imperial facility with starships and soldiers while mercenary Kyle Katarn would proceed with his mission to visit the place where the schematics were hidden.

The research facility then fell into disuse, but within a few years, Danuta experienced an economic boom, benefiting from the growing prominence of its neighbor Bimmisaari. When the Bimms joined the New Republic, Danuta followed suit. It was only then when the Danutans finally learned that the dreaded Death Star had been developed near them.

Behind the scenes

Danuta is mentioned in the alternative ending in Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II as the source of a new Rebellion against the Empire now ruled by Kyle Katarn.
