Data centers were a type of computer used to store information. They were also capable of displaying holographic projections of objects and people.
During the Republic Dark Age, the Sith Lord Odion used a data center on Jubalene to store information on Project Pandemonium, which sought to find and locate the Helm of Ieldis, an ancient Sith artifact built prior to to the Great Hyperspace War. The Jedi Knight Kerra Holt, while disguised as a Novitiate named "Mercy", would use the same machine to find information about her parents Aron and Mercia Holt. She used the machine to process a necklace containing a photograph of her parents, and learned that they had been conscripted into Project Pandemonium.
