The name of the energy drink was an obvious reference to the events of the Battle of Yavin, which entailed the destruction of the first Death Star.

Death Star Destruction energy drinks were featured in the MMORPG Star Wars Galaxies during Empire Day, a live player event that began on June 24 2008, to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Galaxies. They were available for purchase by Rebel-aligned player characters and gave players a temporary experience bonus and a speed boost. They were brought back in 2009 for the sixth year anniversary of Galaxies, this time with a decor version of the item. The Imperial equivalent for the event were Order 66 Cookies. However, some versions of the event do have an Imperial Organizer supplying the energy drink despite its Rebel ties for 5 Empire Tokens.
