Direct action operatives, also colloquially known as rangers, were the non-clone agents of Republic Intelligence during the Clone Wars. Intelligence officers, such as Matese and his team, were recruited due to their experience in the Judicial Forces.
The "direct action operatives" were a rag tag group of peace officers used for one mission. This was the only instance these operatives were used. During this mission, they kidnapped two Morseerians. However, they botched the mission by running into customs agents and only leaving with two of the three scientists. The two Morseerians were used as an exchange for Galen Walton Erso and his family. Lieutenant Commander Orson Callan Krennic handled the exchange without the "rangers."
