A dwarf planet was a type of celestial body smaller than a planet, but still a world in its own right. The arctic planet Ilum was said to be even smaller than a dwarf planet, yet was still called a planet despite being only 660 kilometers in diameter. Like actual planets, dwarf planets could have one or more moons orbiting them.
