The most notorious user of the EE-3 was Boba Fett during and after the Galactic Civil War, with the weapon being considered the bounty hunter's signature weapon. The EE-3 was also used by the bounty hunter Sugi and Kiera Swan during the Clone Wars. Thea Starros had one in her armory at the Starros family homestead. The protocol droid, Q9-0 during the time of the New Republic. After giving up bounty hunting to become the daimyo of his own gotra, as he believed bounty hunters and assassins like himself and Fennec Shand were better prepared to lead such groups than crime lords, Fett obtain a new EE-3 and continued to use it after his old one was cut by Luke Skywalker.
Produced by BlasTech Industries and designed with law enforcement agencies and private secruity in mind, only for bounty hunters and even the Galactic Empire's formal Imperial Military to make use of it, the EE-3 was a short, lightweight carbine based off an older full-sized BlasTech rifle. Rugged and reliable, the EE-3 came equipped with a short and heavily shrouded barrel, pistol grip, a solid stock, and optical sight; the EE-3 was select-fire, and could fire single shots or bursts, which was an oddity for carbines. The EE-3 also boasted heavy fire capability, on par with many rifles of its time, though like many carbines only had moderate range. The EE-4 carbine rifle was the successor to the EE-3; the EE-4 removed the shoulder stock but added a vertical handgrip, as well as having a faster rate of fire, making the EE-4 superior at closer ranges than the EE-3, but at the expense of range.
The EE-3 was one of BlasTech Industries's most popular non-military weapons. While it was primarily designed for law enforcement and private security forces, its standard features and low price quickly made the EE-3 extremely popular with bounty hunters and paramilitary groups across the galaxy. Notably, the EE-3 was used by troopers of both the Alliance to Restore the Republic and the Galactic Empire. The bounty hunter turned crime lord Boba Fett made use of an EE-3 throughout his career.
In the 2015 reference book Ultimate Star Wars, the EE-3 carbine rifle was misidentified as "ESB carbine rifle" in its entry in the technology section of the book. However, in the characters section, under the bounty hunter Sugi, it is identified under its name that was introduced in the now non-canon Star Wars Legends line as the "EE-3 carbine rifle."
