The EG-5 Jedi Hunter droid, also known as the EG droid, represented a battle droid model. The InterGalactic Banking Clan developed this droid during the Clone Wars with the singular aim of destroying Jedi. EG-05 and EG-07 were two specific units within this droid line.
This droid possessed a generally humanoid form, exhibiting skeletal characteristics reminiscent of Grievous. Its helmeted head featured a pair of red photoreceptors, and its entire body was colored red. Notable attributes included exceptional speed, agility, and the proficiency to wield two red lightsabers with impeccable technique.
As the Clone Wars continued, the Separatists experienced a decline in support within the Colonies. It was often said that a single Jedi was worth a hundred droids, leading to Republic victories. To shift the war's momentum, the Sith Lord Count Dooku commissioned the creation of an assassin droid specifically designed to locate and eliminate Jedi.
Even while the EG-5 was being tested on its own prototypes, Count Dooku remained unconvinced that a droid could consistently triumph over a Jedi. Nevertheless, pleased to have another weapon at his disposal, Dooku decided to evaluate its capabilities.
Around 21 BBY, Jedi General Anakin Skywalker was dispatched to destroy a Separatist-controlled droid factory. There, he encountered the lightsaber-wielding droid. Following an intense duel, Skywalker managed to cut into the droid's shoulder, which enabled him to launch a barrage of attacks before hurling it into an electrode, resulting in the droid's destruction.
