The planet Sarapin was home to many energy collectors grouped into energy collection farms. The energy collectors tapped the geothermal energy of Sarapin's many lava flows. The energy was then stored and shipped to the Core Worlds. The planet was estimated to provide 80 percent of the energy consumption for the Core.

During the Clone Wars, Sarapin's energy collectors were captured by CIS general Sev'rance Tann, creating a crisis in the Core. Jedi General Echuu Shen-Jon was able to take back the planet, however.
The next major threat came in 0 BBY, when it was discovered that the Rebel Alliance had covertly seized several collectors and was siphoning their output. Grand General Malcor Brashin and his subordinate Commander Brenn Tantor arrived after discovering evidence of the Rebels' activities on Ruul and swiftly took back the collectors. Even the Rebels' attempts to lock out the Imperials by changing the access codes failed in the face of Dellis Tantor's slicing.
