The FX-6 medical assistant droid represented the pinnacle of surgical multitasking, standing out as the most advanced model within Medtech Industries' FX-series of medical droids. While it was primarily designed to assist doctors, it possessed the capability to independently conduct entire surgical operations when needed, although patients frequently voiced concerns about its perceived emotional detachment.
Part of the "Fixit" series, a collection of nine droids before MedTech's closure, the FX-6 was a particularly adaptable model. Conceived during the Clone Wars, its purpose was to provide mobile, autonomous, and highly skilled medical assistance to field medics on the front lines. The Grand Army of the Republic even deployed FX-6 droids into active or anticipated combat zones to supplement medical support for clone trooper units.
Notably, an FX-6 droid played a crucial role on the inaugural day of the Galactic Empire at the Emperor Palpatine Surgical Reconstruction Center, where it assisted in the reconstruction efforts for Darth Vader.
Unlike many other stationary FX-droids, the FX-6 exhibited exceptional balance, enabling it to navigate diverse and challenging terrains. Despite its proficiency in stabilizing patients and delivering a wide spectrum of medical treatments, its limited personality programming confined the FX-6 to the role of a medical assistant. Furthermore, the FX-6 lacked a vocoder, relying instead on readout screens or direct connections to other droids and computer systems for communication.
Equipped with an array of sophisticated sensors in its head, the FX-6 meticulously gathered essential patient health data. This information was processed and stored through a sophisticated analytical system, allowing the mobile FX-6 to maintain dynamic records for hundreds of patients. This capability made it a staple in busy hospitals and battlefield Rapid Mobile Surgical Units (RMSUs). Later, this model was superseded by the FX-7 and subsequently the 2-1B.
The FX-6 droid, as its designation suggests, drew inspiration from a similar FX-7 droid designed for The Empire Strikes Back. While the FX-7 was a physical prop with limited mobility, the FX-6 was generated using computer animation, granting it a broader range of movement and expressiveness.
