Falang Minor, also known as just Falang, was a Galactic Republic fortress world located in the Outer Rim Territories' Thanium Worlds. A cold and rainy world, it was among the speculated origin points of the Jedi Order. Following the defeat of the Honorable Union of Desevro and Tion in the Tionese War, a series of fortress worlds, including Falang Minor, were established from which Jedi Knights would watch over the Tion Cluster. After the end of the war, a Republic soldier served the Jedi watchmen for a period of twelve years, monitoring starships, intelligence, and transmissions originating in the Tion Cluster. While serving on Falang Minor, the soldier imprinted an audio-visual autobiographical account on a Baragwin sense lattice.
Falang Minor, also known simply as Falang, was a terrestrial world located in the Falang Minor system, a part of the Thanium Worlds sector in the Trans-Hydian portion of the Outer Rim Territories. The world had a cold climate with constant rainfall and no animal or plant life.
Falang Minor was among the worlds speculated to have served as the point of origin of the Jedi Order of Force-sensitives at some point between 25,000 BBY and 24,000 BBY, with the organization ultimately tracing its roots to the Deep Core planet Tython. Upon the defeat of the Honorable Union of Desevro and Tion in the Tionese War around 23,900 BBY, an arc of Galactic Republic fortress worlds was established along the Coreward boundaries of the Tion Cluster, which eventually became a part of the Republic. The fortress worlds included Falang Minor, Haashimut, and Ossus, the home of the Jedi Order at the time. On those worlds, Jedi Knights acted as the Republic's watchmen, monitoring the restless star cluster. Despite Falang Minor being a Republic fortress world, it nominally remained outside the borders of the government around 22,000 BBY.
Shortly after the end of the Tionese War, a Republic Guardsman was assigned to serve the Jedi watchmen on Falang Minor. While still a boy during the war, the soldier had survived a Tionese attack on the celestial body Okator VIII that had destroyed their home, after which the youth had enlisted with the Republic Military. The soldier's duties on Falang Minor included monitoring starship traffic, intelligence, and transmissions originating in the Tion Cluster.
After serving on Falang Minor for twelve years, the soldier imprinted on a Baragwin sense lattice an audio-visual account of the attack on Okator VIII. In the record, the soldier noted their displeasure at both the world they were stationed on—as opposed to the pastoral Okator VIII—and the nature of their duties, which gave them too many opportunities for introspection. Nevertheless, the soldier re-affirmed in the narration their distrust for the Tionese and their determination to continue watching them indefinitely, along with a conviction that all personnel on Falang Minor would similarly do so.
Falang Minor was first mentioned in the 2004 Wizards of the Coast sourcebook Geonosis and the Outer Rim Worlds. The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Falang Minor system, and therefore the planet itself, in grid square R-6. In 2014, Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare Author's Cut, a series of articles published on the StarWars.com Blog containing various cut content from the 2012 reference book The Essential Guide to Warfare, introduced a shortened version of the planet's name.
