A Force-sensitive, Flerp was inducted into the Jedi Order and received his training in the ways of the Force at the Coruscant Jedi Temple. When the Clone Wars erupted between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, Flerp remained at the Temple and participated in the 19 BBY Jedi Temple Apprentice Tournament. Administrated by Master Ilena Xan, Flerp faced off against fellow Initiate Zrim .
In The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia Flerp's name is mistakenly combined with Padawan Zrim. In the novel, Yoda: Dark Rendezvous, the names of the pairs of Padawans that are about to duel each other are being called by Master Ilena Xan. Each pair is listed, surname only; i.e. "Flerp, Zrim." and "Page, Glip." Later Xan calls out, "Chizzik, Enwandung-Esterhazy," thus providing the reader with concrete evidence that only surnames were being used.
