These barges were circular platforms under floating parasols, operated by a barge pilot.
Doctors took dozens of patients into the mists of high-flying clouds, having them lie prone on the smooth deck while wearing wispy, sheetlike wraps, in order to receive the supposed therapeutic value of the atmospheric chemical haze in a so-called "cloud bath". The effectiveness of this treatment was never clinically proven, but many visitors to Bespin were lavish in their praise of the technique.
These floating spas were located near colonies like Cloud City or Taloraan City, from where they could be accessed.
