Gesl was a planet protected by the Imperial Irmenu Navy, the seagoing navy of the planet Irmenu. Walon Vau's father, an admiral in the Imperial Irmenu Navy, was the Count of Gesl.
Gesl was first mentioned in the 2007 novel Republic Commando: True Colors, which was written by Karen Traviss. It was later described as a planet in the 2008 reference book The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia.
