Eli Katz (April 6, 1926 – January 31, 2000), better known as Gil Kane, was a comic-book artist who illustrated a few comic covers for the Marvel Star Wars series. He was also tapped to illustrate Dark Horse Comics' adaptation of Dark Force Rising, but had to drop out of the project due to scheduling conflicts.
Born in Riga, Latvia, Kane moved with his family to New York in 1930. His earliest comics work, at the age of 16, was drawing borders and word balloons for already penciled drawings. Kane later began working as an illustrator for DC Comics and worked on many of their titles over several decades. Some of his more notable work was done in the late 1950s recreating DC's Green Lantern and The Atom. Kane also worked for Marvel Comics, illustrating several Spider-Man stories and regularly producing covers for various series including Star Wars. In 2000, Kane died of complications from cancer.
