Gromas system was largerly ignored among the industrial and mining worlds of the sector, notable only for its panorama of moons of various colors. This changed when, shortly before 0 BBY, phrikite desposits were discovered on those moons. Prospectors filed competing claims on Trancret, the sector capital, and hastily assembled exploration companies seeking backing on the . This period of activity on Trancret, and exploration of the system stopped, when the Galactic Empire, seeking for material to fund the Dark Trooper Project, voided all claims and annexed the system. The project turned out to be top secret and the system was closed-off, disappointing the who hoped for jobs or cooperation with the Empire.
The Empire had constructed a major mining and refining facility on Gromas 16 and several satellite minor facilities on other moons, until the Dark Trooper Project was finished and pulled off. Imperial warships stopped traveling along the routes, allowing a few brave explorers to return to Gromas, where they found the Gromas 16 base destroyed from a reactor failure (actually the result of Rebel sabotage) and the facilities abandoned, along with equipment including mining droids.
Another period of new claims and explorations began with Emperor Palpatine's death. The was established to resolve the claims. Its operations brought a new wave of prosperity for the sector.
