Holographic piloting exams were forms of situational testing administered by the leadership of the Alliance of Free Planets to test a pilot's flight capabilities and problem-solving skills during combat. The exam included a pre-programmed scenario that was displayed via holoprojector from the test taker's flight computer. During the Nagai–Tof War, Mon Calamari Admiral Ackbar proctored such an exam, in which Mandalorian Fenn Shysa and the famed General Han Solo participated alongside many other Alliance pilots. General Solo believed the test beneath him and felt that a pilot proved himself by actually flying, rather than playing what he considered a "game."
