B1-series worker droid

AccuTronics made a significant impact on the fifth-degree labor droid market by introducing the B1 worker droid. While the CLL-8 binary load lifters were frequently implemented in freight operations due to their large size, the B-1 worker droid acted as a smaller-scale alternative to those enormous machines.

Characteristics

Its programming mirrored that of its larger counterparts, resulting in a straightforward, literal way of thinking that was still adequate for the monotony of strenuous physical labor, which demanded little beyond raw strength. B1 droids accepted instructions from anyone. Its cargo claws incorporated suction pads to enhance grip, and its reverse-jointed legs were supported by a third, retractable leg that provided additional stability when lifting cumbersome loads.

History

A B1 in use as an Imperial defense droid

In the time leading up to the Clone Wars, AccuTronics sponsored a nuna-ball team consisting of B1s. This team suffered defeat at the hands of a Serv-O-Droid team featuring RIC-series droids, which demonstrated greater speed and agility compared to the powerful but clumsy cargo droids.

These droids saw usage at the Radell Mining Corporation headquarters. The heavily armed Imperial defense droids deployed on the original Death Star shared the same fundamental design.

Behind the scenes

The Rebel Alliance Sourcebook, Second Edition and Platt's Smugglers Guide list the price as 9,800 credits (new) and 6,400 credits (used), but the Arms & Equipment Guide indicates a cost of 800 credits.
