The ion encumbrance system was a unique system fitted to the Vana Sage's starfighter, the Guardian Mantis. The system launched small ion-enabled "tags", projectiles which attached to enemy vessels and caused an ionization effect which disabled their deflector shields. They could be used in conjunction with nano-missiles as a guidance system.
