Jakelian

The Jakelians were a sentient species from the Outer Rim Territories' Jakelia system. They developed edged weapons and, during the Mandalorian Crusades, became a vassal species of the Taung Mandalorian Crusaders. Later, during the reign of Mandalore the Ultimate, Jakelians were among the species whose members became full members of the Mandalorian clans.

Society and culture

The Jakelians were a sentient species originating in the Jakelia system of the Outer Rim Territories' Mandalore sector. They developed edged weaponry and shared their name with the Jakelian knife-dance, a form of melee combat that also possessed some characteristics of dancing.

At some point, the Jakelians came into contact with the Mandalorian Crusaders, a culture of warriors originating with the Taung species and waging the interstellar war-worship–based campaign known as the Mandalorian Crusades since 7000 BBY. In contrast to other cultures that the Mandalorians had exterminated, the Jakelians readily accepted the conquerors as their new overlords and became their vassals. The Mandalorians, in turn, studied and improved the Jakelian edged weapons.

At some point by 3976 BBY, the Mandalorian leader Mandalore the Ultimate decreed that non-Taungs who proved themselves in battle and followed the tenets of the Mandalorian warrior code would become full members of the Mandalorian clans, and consequently, Jakelians were among several species whose members thus became part of the warrior culture. Vilnau Teupt eventually mentioned the Jakelians in the keynote address "Industry, Honor, Savagery: Shaping the Mandalorian Soul" at Brentaal Academy's 412th Proceedings of Galactic Anthropology and History in 24 ABY.

Behind the scenes

The Jakelians were mentioned in the 2012 reference book The Essential Guide to Warfare by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart.
