A Jeron fusioncutter was a portable mining tool used to cut rock. It was powered with power cells and fired green bolts from each of its four chambers; it had the option to fire all four simultaneously, although this drained eight times the energy, instead of four times.
It could also be used as a weapon, as Kyle Katarn demonstrated on Gromas 16. Fire from all its four barrels provided wider range but less clout. Not designed as a weapon, its shots lost accuracy over distance, and it fired too slow for close combat.
During development of the game the Fusion Cutter was one of the universally strongest weapons that outperform all others; its power was rationalised in the finished game in order to encourage more diverse strategy from the player.
