The Kaapauku people were a group of Wookiees. During Bossk's assault on the gunship called Liswarr, Bossk detected the scent of a Wookiee, identifying them as potentially a member of either the Kaapauku or the Sawa societies, although he admitted to sometimes mixing up the two.
The initial reference to the Kappauku community appeared in the short story "Tooth and Claw," featured in the 2020 anthology From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back.
Originally, in the script for Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, Chewbacca's father was named Auzituck. This character was envisioned as a frail, yet elegantly attired, eight-foot-tall Wookiee who held the position of chief within the Kaapauku community.
