Kevdan Aerosystems was first mentioned in the new Star Wars canon in the 2019 reference book Star Wars: The Complete Visual Dictionary, New Edition. The name originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was first created by special effects artist Don Bies for the 2006 reference book Star Wars: The Complete Visual Dictionary. Bies created the name as a reference to , an R2-D2 operator in Walt Disney World and , who provided R2 units and other robots to the Disney theme parks.
