Several days after the unit was created, it joined forces with the New Republic CR90 corvette FarStar and its starfighter squadron to defend the planet from an attack by the Ton-Falk-class escort carrier Kathol Protector. The FarStar was assisting in relief operations following an earlier assault on the planet's capital, Domaz, by the Kathol Protector. During the battle, the combined Kolatill–New Republic force managed to destroy the assault force of TIE/sa bombers that were intent on dropping pathogenic bombs on the planet's cities.
In 8 ABY, the New Republic liberated Kal'Shebbol, the capital of the Kathol sector in the Outer Rim Territories, forcing Moff Kentor Sarne to abandon the majority of his warlord holdings and flee into the depths of the sector. In response, the neighboring planet Kolatill ousted its Imperial governor, Tetrum; declared allegiance to the New Republic; and returned control of the planet to its local government, the Kolatill Council. Once in control, the Council established the Kolatill Defense Force to assist in protecting the world, although the small force was only equipped with six TIE starfighters.
In retaliation for the planet's defiance, Moff Sarne detailed the Ton-Falk-class escort carrier Kathol Protector to assault the world. TIE bombers launched from the vessel devastated the capital city of Domaz. The Kolatill Council issued a distress signal following the attack, which was answered by the New Republic CR90 corvette FarStar. As the ship arrived in orbit of Kolatill four days later, the starfighters of the Kolatill Defense Force challenged them, requesting identification. Once made aware that the vessel represented the New Republic, the fighters provided escort for relief shuttles descending to the surface to provide aid to Domaz.
Shortly after the arrival of the FarStar, the Kathol Protector returned to conduct a second attack on Kolatill. This time, the Imperial force intended to use pathogenic bombs and target several cities on the surface to maximize casualties and damage. While the FarStar and part of its starfighter squadron engaged TIE starfighters in space, the Kolatill Defense Force joined a small contingent of fighters from the corvette that had been on the surface at the time of the attack in fending off waves of TIE bombers. The combined Kolatill–New Republic force managed to destroy the attacking Imperial force without allowing them to drop their deadly cargo.
The Kolatill Defense Force consisted of six standard model TIE starfighters and their pilots.
The Kolatill Defense Force was introduced in the RPG adventure Omens, which was published as part of The DarkStryder Campaign by West End Games in 1995.
