Laser pistol was a generic term for several types of handheld blasters.
The script for the original film uses the term "laser pistol" to refer to various weapons used by Princess Leia, Ponda Baba, Han Solo, and Luke Skywalker. The term is used only in narration of the action, never in dialogue, so it does not appear at all in the finished film, which instead uses "blaster" as the colloquial, in-universe term.
Along with alternate spellings lazerpistol and lazer pistol, the term was used in earlier drafts of Episode IV.
Kenner produced a toy it called a "laser pistol" as part of its first Star Wars toy line in 1977. The toy was modelled after Han Solo's pistol from A New Hope.
