Ania Solo and her friends have been chased, blockaded, and shot at, and now they're stuck on a world of molten sulfur all because an Imperial Knight wants them dead. Just when things seem bleakest, another Imperial Knight shows up! Is he here to help them, or help destroy them?
Following the defeat of Darth Krayt's Galactic Empire, the One Sith are driven underground. A new Galactic Federation Triumvirate consisting of the Jedi Order, the Fel Empire, and the Galactic Alliance Remnant is established. The new Empress Marasiah Fel embarks on an ambitious project to link the Outer Rim Territories with the rest of the galaxy. During a mission to the Carreras system, the Imperial Knight Yalta Val is ambushed and kidnapped by a rogue Sith, who imprisons him and steals his identity. After receiving no contact from Master Val, the Imperial Knight Jao Assam flies his starfighter into the Carreras system. Upon arriving, he encounters a Shifala naval blockade.

Despite saving their lives, Ania is hostile to their Imperial Knight rescuer due to her bad experience with the Sith impostor posing as Master Val. They decide to find the real Yalta Val, using the comm droid's coordinates.
In the inner edge of the Surd Nebula, the Sith impostor oversees the firing stages of the Carreras G51 communications array. Following delays in the ignition process, the false "Yalta Val" Force-chokes a Shifala engineer, greatly distressing Governor Biala and her subordinates. Meanwhile, AG-37's freighter is pursued by Carreras starfighters and flees into the Surd Nebula.
