A linguistics droid was a type of droid that specialized in languages. The Autonomous Translator Module, Mark II, also known as the talker droid, was a model of linguistics droid that was considered ancient by the Imperial Era. One talker droid, which the protocol droid C-3PO presumed to be the only remaining droid of its kind in the galaxy, was stored in the curator's private collection within the Imperial Museum on Coruscant. The droid was stolen by the Rebel Alliance, whose members wished to use its knowledge of the extinct Trawak language as the basis for a new form of encryption code.
