The MC85 Star Cruiser was a class of Heavy Star Cruiser that measured at a length of 3,438.37 meters. Jointly constructed by the Mon Calamari Shipyards and Corellian Engineering Corporation for service in the New Republic Defense Fleet, the MC85's interior was designed to be more amenable to non-amphibious crew members, though it still had special waterways for aquatic species. Due to the New Republic's limited personnel, the MC85 was designed to be a highly automated ship, able to operate at full capacity with only skeleton crews. The MC85's primary command bridge was located at the bow of the ship, and contained a large holotable that could display the ship's status or that of its targets. In the event that the command bridge was left critically damaged, it also had a smaller emergency bridge located in the ventral area. Behind the emergency bridge was the vessel's large fuel storage; with the ion scoop particle collectors located beneath the fuel tanks. The cruiser was equipped with two large hangars, one on the port and one on the starboard side of the ship. The MC85 contained repair bays for both vehicles and droids, as well as several dozen modular storage compartments.

Speed

Despite its large size, the MC85 was a fast cruiser. Even nearly thirty years after commission, the Dawn of Tranquility, in service with the Resistance under the name Raddus, was still able to outrun the First Order's modern battlecruisers and the massive Supremacy. Propelled by eleven sublight ion engines of different sizes, these massive ships were as fuel hungry as they were fast.

Offensive and defensive systems

As part of the New Republic's Military Disarmament Act, the MC85 was designed to put a greater emphasis on its defensive shields than its offensive firepower. Hence, while undergunned for a typical ship of its size, featuring only a few dozen heavy turbolasers, heavy ion cannons, and point-defense laser cannon turrets in total as well as half a dozen proton torpedo launchers, the MC85 compensated for this with highly durable advanced deflector shields. These experimental shields that cocooned the ship were capable of repelling huge amounts of damage before failing, far more than most other ships.

History

The Raddus served as the Resistance flagship during their war against the First Order.

The Raddus served as the Resistance flagship during their war against the First Order.

One ship, the Raddus, served as the flagship of the Resistance navy, and was crucial in the evacuation of D'Qar. The bridge of the Raddus was destroyed in the following battle, and resulted in the deaths of most of the Resistance High Command, including Admiral Gial Ackbar, when it was attacked by First Order TIE fighters.

It was subsequently destroyed during the attack on the Resistance fleet when Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo purposefully entered hyperspace to crash into the Supremacy, splintering the massive vessel in two, with the debris cutting through twenty escorting Resurgent-class Star Destroyers.

In 35 ABY, MC85 Star Cruisers were part of a fleet assembled by Lando Calrissian to assist the Resistance during the battle against the Sith Eternal forces over the planet Exegol. Several variants of the standard MC85 were present in the battle as well, including one with a vertical blade shape protruding below the bow, one lacking the pointed bow and having small protruding fins, and one with two angled wings near the stern.
