Malongo pox was a disease that exhibited symptoms such as fever, headache, pus-filled blisters, sore throat, and stomach cramps. Humans were one species capable of contracting the disease, while aquatic species such as Bivall were immune. Malongo pox's symptoms—save for the blisters—could be simulated through the consumption of several guiji fire peppers. During his time as a student of Reena University, Axel Greylark faked having the disease in this manner to get out of participating in the Queen's Bloom Festival, timing his feigned malady with a surge of the real disease through the university's east tower. Greylark's ruse did not fool the dean of student life Ry Harket; however, as Dean Harket had duties to attend to during the festival, she ordered the nurse droid Una to "treat" Greylark using sedatives. The treatment was refused by Greylark, who claimed it gave him nightmares.
