Manta rays were, like jellyfish and the Portuguese man-o'-war, creatures that closely resembled the Oswaft of the ThonBoka nebula. They were broad and streamlined, powerfully winged, sinister in appearance and yet pleasing to look at, and their dorsal surfaces were domed with high muscle. The Confederacy of Independent Systems's Manta droid subfighter took its name from the manta ray, and the Mon Calamari Keelkana-class attack submersible also took inspiration from the creature.
Mynocks and Alderaanian thrantas were often described as looking like giant manta-rays.
A manta ray appears in the LEGO Star Wars subtheme LEGO Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace in the set 7161 Gungan Sub. This serves as the first visual depiction of them, but is non-canon.
