During the New Republic Era, General Armitage Hux and Kylo Ren were sent on a mission to the planet Karaxis by Supreme Leader Snoke, who wanted the planet under the First Order jurisdiction.

During their gradual conquest of the galaxy, the First Order made their way into the planet Karaxis, positioning their ships above the planet at all times for the people to see along with having their stormtroopers on the ground so the Karaxian people felt the presence of the First Order.
However, Supreme Leader Snoke didn't believe this was an accurate showcase of strength and instead just displayed how afraid they were to take action, so he ordered General Hux and Kylo Ren to travel to the planet and show the Karaxians true strength.

Shortly after being assigned their mission, Hux reluctantly told Ren that they had a better chance of achieving their objective if they worked together, but the dark knight forced Hux to make him lead the mission by intimidating him, with the general saying that those tactics might work in the First Order but not in the wild galaxy. Arriving on Karaxis, Kylo Ren began to physically threaten and beat the Karaxian rebels to make them submit to the First Order, but they refused as they didn't have the authority to do it.
As Hux relished in Ren's failure to get the rebels to cooperate, the general learned about the Bramalish, wild beasts that roamed around the woods and that were kept out by the planets' walls. Realizing that the only one with the authority to make the people of Karaxis meet their demands was Kelvin Mann, Ren mind probed one of the rebels and learned that Mann was hiding in the mountains of the planet, ordering Hux to stay with the rebels as he didn't want him to undermine his quest to find Mann.
Arriving at the location, Kylo told Kelvin Mann that it was useless to resist and he should give up before being attacked by a group of rebels that started blasting at him. Igniting his lightsaber, Ren slashed through all of them quickly before forcefully entering the house where Mann was hiding with his family.

Right as the knight was telling Kelvin that no harm would come to his family as long as he obeyed the First Order, Ren felt the presence of the Force close to him, reigniting his lightsaber and demanding they revealed which one of them was powerful with the force. After mind probing Mann to confirm that his denials of the fact were true, Ren began to think that maybe it was something else before being interrupted by a loud noise.
As a ploy to create chaos and force the karaxians into a settlement, General Hux unleashed a Bramalish onto the Karaxian population, but the beast proved to be too much as the First Order stormtroopers were unable to contain or stop it. Just as the Bramalish was about to end Hux's life, Kylo Ren arrived, using the force to freeze the creature as he expressed his anger with the General's failed ploy. After Hux ordered the stormtroopers to help Ren defeat the creature, the First Order managed to scare the Bramalish away.
Ren brought Kelvin Mann with him so that Hux could make him pledge allegiance to the First Order, making Karaxis fall under their jurisdiction and threatening to come back in case their demands aren't met.
With his mission complete, Ren returned and informed Supreme Leader Snoke of the presence he felt back at the planet, and how he was unable to identify where it came from. His master chastised him for this, saying that it proved how undisciplined he was, but also reassured the knight by saying that his training was far from complete.
