Sometime after its formation at the conclusion of the Clone Wars, the Galactic Empire launched a siege and subsequent occupation of the planet of Kashyyyk. The Empire targeted Kashyyyk primarily for its wealth in natural resources and to exploit the native Wookiee population as slave labor. In its efforts to make way for industrialization, the Empire enlisted the aid of Trandohsan mercenaries, who were known to have a fierce and ancient rivalry with the Wookiees. Using Imperial-supplied Incinerator tanks, which had been modified to fire deadly torrents of fire, the Trandoshan mercenaries begun to deforest large swaths of forest on the planet, often destroying any Wookiee villages that happened to be in the way.
The mercenaries of Clone Force 99, while on a mission to sell forged chain codes at the space station Vanguard Axis station, discovered Jedi Padawan Gungi being held hostage at the station in preparation to be sold off to an unknown buyer. Taking pity on the young Wookiee, Omega rescued him. The squad managed to extract Gungi from the station aboard their shuttle, the Marauder.
Initially wary of the squad of clones due to his experiences during Order 66, Gungi eventually revealed that he had been trying to reach his homeworld of Kashyyyk in the aftermath of Order 66, but had been captured by smugglers. The squad leader, Hunter, agreed to return Gungi to Kashyyyk and to help him find a tribe of Wookiees willing to take him in.
On approach to the planet, Tech picked up signals that indicated large swaths of smog and deforestation on certain sectors of the planet, while Echo worried that the Empire likely already had outposts on the planet. Landing the Marauder in a small clearing on the heavily forested planet, the squad embarked into the wilderness in search of a Wookiee village, with Gungi leading the way. Gungi claimed to vaguely remember his home village in his dreams.
After a brief confrontation with a group of native netcasters, the squad reached the remains of Gungi's village, which had been completely razed to the ground. After briefly mourning, the squad moved along, and eventually encountered two modified Armored Assault Tanks in the process of burning down a grouping of Wookiee standing stones, with a compliment of Trandoshan mercenaries and a captured Wookiee warrior in tow. Enraged, Gungi ignited his lightsaber and attacked the convoy. in which the members of Clone Force 99 followed suit. In a quick skirmish, the group dismantled the tanks and took out their crews, and quickly freed the captured Wookiee warrior. Wookiee reinforcements soon arrived and took the squad back to their village.
Soon after, Babwa Venomor, a Trandoshan charged overseeing the deforestation of Kashyyyk, arrived to the scene of the skirmish with more Trandoshan mercenaries and a contingent of clone stormtroopers. As the convoy investigated the scene, one of the clones recognized the marks on the destroyed tanks as those belonging to a lightsaber. Another clone suggested reporting their finding to Imperial command, though Venomor claimed it would not be necessary, as he and his mercenaries would eliminate the Jedi first.
At the Wookiee village, Wookiee chief Yanna is informed by her scouts that the convoy had begun heading in the direction of the village. Unwilling to leave the Wookiees behind, Clone Force 99 agreed to stay and help fend off the convoy. The rogue clones and Wookiees planned to lure the convoy deep into to forest before unleashing a horde of netcasters on them.
As the convoy neared the village, the Wookiees begun their attack by destroying a tank with a thermal detonator, and a fierce fire fight ensued. During the skirmish, both sides took casualties, before the Wookiee forces begun an organized retreat deeper into the forest. Having spotted Gungi, Veremor personally pursued the Wookiee with a flamethrower. As his forces were attacked and routed by a horde of netcasters, Veremor attempted to kill Gungi, but was eventually captured and pulled up into the forest canopy by three netcasters.
With the convoy destroyed and the Imperial forces killed or routed, the Wookiees extinguished the flames that had erupted during the battle. Back at the village, the Wookiee warriors drank with the members of Clone Force 99 in celebration, as Gungi and Omega prayed under a wroshyr tree. While Yanna believed that one day Gungi and Omega would find new paths in life, Hunter hoped that it would be far away from war.
