In the early years of the New Republic, the gang resorted to stealing from the water-monger Lortha Peel since they were unable to find work in order to pay for the high price of water. Peel brought the youths' activities to the attention of the new Daimyo Boba Fett. The crime lord confronted the gang; however, after learning of their situation, Fett gave them an offer to work for him. The street gang later assisted Fett in fending off the Wookiee gladiator Krrsantan, who was sent to kill him by the Hutts known as the Twins, and later pursued the majordomo of Mayor Mok Shaiz through the streets of Mos Espa. When they captured the majordomo, he revealed that the mayor was with the Pyke Syndicate. Skad later staked out the spaceport, catching the arrival of the Pyke Syndicate operatives and reporting this to Boba and Fennec Shand. Afterwards, the Mods combed the streets of Mos Espa for the fugitive mayor. The Mods assisted Boba Fett against the Pykes.
The Mods first appeared in "Chapter 3: The Streets of Mos Espa," the third episode of The Book of Boba Fett television series. They are an homage to the Mod subculture that was popular in Britain throughout the late 1950s and the 1960s, and also to the film American Graffiti, which was directed by Star Wars creator George Lucas. Temuera Morrison, the actor who played Boba Fett, said that the Mods are meant to add "a lot of color and a lot of youthfulness" to the series. They are also meant to represent a new order in which Boba Fett gives everyone a fair chance.
