When the Tionese later withdrew from the system, they encouraged the Moralan to launch a successful rebellion against the Hutts, and a republic governed by the Parliament of Moralan was established. In response, however, Hutt forces led by Boonta Hestilic Shad'ruu defeated the Moralan, after which the planet was sterilized.
Moralan was a planet located in the Moralan system of Hutt Space. During the Xim Wars of 25,102 BBY–25,096 BBY, Moralan was connected by hyperlanes to the Outer Rim Territories planet Honoghr as well as to the interior of Hutt Space. Those hyperspace routes eventually ceased to exist, and Moralan instead became connected by a hyperlane to Hutt Space's Usk system.
Moralan was home to a sentient species of the same name. The Moralan were enslaved by members of the Hutt species, with the Moralan homeworld constituting a part of the Hutt Empire by the time of the Xim Wars. During that conflict between the Hutts and the Tionese conqueror Xim the Despot, the latter's forces entered the Moralan system.
In 25,100 BBY and 25,099 BBY, Xim suffered two defeats against Hutt forces at Vontor. Hoping to inspire revolts among the Hutt slave species—and offering a concession to buy time for preparing war materiel for another confrontation—the Human ruler withdrew his forces from the Moralan system. Encouraged by the Tionese, the Moralan then launched a successful rebellion against the Hutts and established a republic governed by the Parliament of Moralan.
In response, Boonta Hestilic Shad'ruu led Hutt forces in a three-day battle against the Parliament of Moralan. Eventually, the Hutts swiftly overran Moralan, and Boonta ordered the planet to be sterilized as an object lesson for the rest of the Hutt slave species.
As a result, the Moralan were rendered extinct, with their home planet left a ruined world. Subsequently, Clan-General Kossak Inijic Ar'durv of the Hutt Empire offered to cede the world of Ko Vari as well as the ravaged remains of Moralan to Xim if he won a third battle at Vontor, which saw the Human's final defeat and capture by the Hutts.
The planet Moralan was first explicitly mentioned in the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas, authored by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry, which placed it in grid square T-10. That mention drew upon a reference to the Parliament of Moralan in "Star Wars Droids: The Adventures of R2-D2 and C-3PO," a roleplaying game source article authored by Rich Handley and Abel G. Peña for use with the Wizards of the Coast Star Wars Roleplaying Game and published in the 170th issue of the Polyhedron magazine in June 2004.
In a 2009 Suvudu article describing the creation of the map of Hutt Space for The Essential Atlas, Fry related that in 2006, after sketching an outline for the borders of that region with a ballpoint pen and noting the few systems that previously published sources had placed on maps, he composed a list of worlds that were implied to be in Hutt Space but had not been explicitly depicted as part of the region. During that process, Fry envisioned "Moralan" as a planet's name and subsequently added it to the map-in-progress in pencil.
