In the first edition of the Imperial Sourcebook, published in 1989, Ordnance was listed as being the division of the Support Service Branch tasked with using armament. The second edition, released in 1994, amended the entry; Ordnance was responsible for the installation and maintenance of the weapons, with operation of the weapons falling to the newly created Gunnery division.
